PAKISTAN: Zakat curriculum fixed for Islamic year 41-1440 AH financial year 20-2019
A notification has been sent to the State Bank by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Division, after which the State Bank has informed the banks about the zakat curriculum.
According to the notification this year, the zakat curriculum has been fixed at Rs 46,329 and banks will start deducting the amount of zakat by Ramadan on 1st of Ramadan.
Zakat will be deducted from two-thirds of the savings bank accounts in excess of 46,329 but zakat will not be deducted from the account of the Company, Current Account or the users who have submitted the Declaration of Non-Zakat to the Bank.
It is to be noted that in 2019, the zakat curriculum was set at Rs 44,415, which was the equivalent of 52 pieces of silver at that time.
It should be noted that Zakat is one of the 5 members of Islam, and that it requires an adult Muslim to receive 7 tons of gold, 52 tons of silver, or the equivalent of cash or merchandise, or mix it all together. If some of the total amount is equal to the silver curriculum, then such person is obliged to pay two and a half percent as zakat after the completion of the year.
